Every planet except the Sun and Moon retrogrades. In 2026, seven of the eight planets (Mercury through Pluto) go retrograde at various points, with Mars being the only exception. The busiest retrograde season runs from July through December, when up to six planets can be retrograde simultaneously.

Inner planet retrogrades (Mercury, Venus) are short and personal -- you feel them in your daily life. Outer planet retrogrades (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) last months and operate on longer timelines, affecting career arcs, societal structures, and generational shifts. This calendar covers all of them.

What Each Retrograde Means

Mercury

Communication, technology, travel, commerce. Mercury retrograde is the one most people feel directly -- email glitches, travel delays, misunderstandings, and exes resurfacing. In 2026, all three Mercury retrogrades fall in water signs, emphasizing emotional communication over logistical snafus.

Venus

Love, beauty, money, values, relationships. Venus retrograde happens roughly every 18 months and lasts about 40 days. During this period, old relationships get reconsidered, spending habits come under review, and what you find attractive may shift. Not ideal for cosmetic procedures, major purchases, or starting new romantic relationships. Good for reassessing what you actually value versus what you have been chasing.

Mars(not retrograde in 2026)

Drive, ambition, conflict, energy, sexuality. Mars does not retrograde in 2026. Its roughly 26-month cycle means it skips this year entirely. The last Mars retrograde ended in February 2025 (in Cancer/Leo), and the next begins in January 2027. This is good news -- Mars retrograde is one of the more frustrating transits, draining physical energy and stalling projects that require initiative.

Jupiter

Growth, expansion, luck, philosophy, higher education, travel. Jupiter retrograde is a period of internal growth rather than external expansion. Opportunities still exist, but they require more reflection. Plans that seemed like sure things may need revision. The first retrograde (Cancer) wraps up in March, and the second (Leo) begins in December -- bookending the year.

Saturn

Structure, discipline, responsibility, authority, limitations. Saturn retrograde is a period of structural reassessment. Rules and systems you have been living under come up for review. Career commitments, authority relationships, and long-term plans get tested. Saturn in Aries is already uncomfortable -- Aries wants to rush, Saturn insists on patience. The retrograde intensifies that friction.

Uranus

Revolution, innovation, disruption, freedom, technology. Uranus retrograde turns the urge for change inward. Instead of external upheaval, the disruption happens inside -- questioning assumptions, rethinking what freedom means to you, noticing where you have been conforming out of habit rather than choice. Uranus enters Gemini in 2025 and this is its first full retrograde in the sign, which likely coincides with shifts in communication technology, media, and information systems.

Neptune

Dreams, illusion, spirituality, creativity, deception. Neptune retrograde lifts some of the fog that Neptune normally creates. Idealized views of people and situations become more realistic. Creative inspiration may dry up temporarily, but you see things more clearly. Neptune entered Aries in 2025 for the first time since the 1860s, and its retrograde here is a good time to ask whether your ideals are actually yours or borrowed from someone else.

Pluto

Power, control, the unconscious, what is buried. Pluto retrograde is hard to notice day-to-day but matters on a collective scale. Power dynamics that have been building beneath the surface become visible. On a personal level, Pluto retrograde in Aquarius is a good time to look at where you give your power away to groups, technology, or systems. Pluto moves slowly -- it entered Aquarius in 2024 and will stay until 2044.

Tips for Navigating Retrograde Seasons

  • +Check which planets are retrograde before scheduling major life events. Not to avoid them entirely, but to know what extra attention is needed.
  • +Inner planet retrogrades (Mercury, Venus) are felt personally and pass quickly. Do not rearrange your life around them -- just add a buffer.
  • +Outer planet retrogrades (Jupiter through Pluto) are background weather. They affect the landscape you are operating in, not your Tuesday.
  • +Multiple retrogrades at once can feel like nothing is moving forward. Use these periods for planning, reflection, and maintenance rather than launches.
  • +Retrograde is not inherently bad. It is a different gear. Some of your best insights come from revisiting things during retrograde periods.
  • +October 2026 is the densest retrograde month. If you have flexibility on timing, push major launches or commitments to either side of it.
  • +Keep a retrograde journal. Note what comes up during each period. Over time, you will see your personal patterns with these transits.

Retrogrades hit differently depending on your natal chart. A planet retrograding over your natal Sun, Moon, or ascendant degree is more noticeable than one passing through an empty house. Your birth chart shows you where to pay attention.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many planets are retrograde in 2026?

Seven planets go retrograde during 2026: Mercury (three times), Venus (once), Jupiter (once, continuing from late 2025 and starting again in December 2026), Saturn (once), Uranus (once, starting in September), Neptune (once), and Pluto (once). Mars does not retrograde in 2026 -- its next retrograde is in 2027.

Is Mars retrograde in 2026?

No. Mars retrogrades roughly every 26 months, and 2026 falls in a gap year for Mars retrograde. The most recent Mars retrograde ended in February 2025, and the next one begins in January 2027. This means 2026 has one fewer retrograde to deal with than many years.

What months have the most retrogrades in 2026?

Late summer through fall is the busiest retrograde season in 2026. From July through November, you can have up to five planets retrograde at the same time. October is especially dense: Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto are all retrograde for at least part of the month.

Do outer planet retrogrades matter as much as Mercury retrograde?

Outer planet retrogrades (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) last months, not weeks, and their effects are more generational and gradual. You will not notice Saturn retrograde the way you notice Mercury retrograde messing up your group chat. Outer planet retrogrades work on slower timelines -- career direction, life structures, collective shifts. They matter, but differently.

What does it mean when multiple planets are retrograde at once?

Multiple simultaneous retrogrades can feel like everything stalls at once. Forward momentum slows across several life areas. This is not necessarily bad -- it can be a useful stretch for reflection, reassessment, and catching up on things you have been putting off. The 'nothing is moving forward' feeling is temporary and usually lifts as planets station direct again.
