Understanding Pythagorean Numerology
Pythagorean numerology is the most widely practiced system in the Western world, tracing its roots to the Greek mathematician Pythagoras (570-495 BC). It operates on the principle that numbers carry vibrational qualities that can reveal information about personality, life purpose, and natural abilities.
The system uses a simple cipher to convert letters to numbers (A=1, B=2, ... I=9, J=1, K=2, and so on). Should I use my birth name or current name?
Traditional Pythagorean numerology uses the name given at birth (as it appears on your birth certificate). This is believed to carry the original vibrational pattern you were given. If you have changed your name, the birth name still forms your foundational Expression and Soul Urge numbers.
Why might Expression or Soul Urge show as empty?
If you only enter a birth date without a name, only the Life Path number can be calculated (since it is derived from the date). Expression and Soul Urge require your name. Enter your full birth name to see all three numbers.
